Palomar Opens Series with 5-2 Road Victory Over Grossmont

EL CAJON, CA (3/25/2025) -- No. 15 Palomar College kicked off its three-game series against Grossmont College with a strong 5-2 victory on Tuesday afternoon, powered by a balanced offensive attack and a dominant performance from the pitching staff.

The Comets wasted no time getting on the board, scoring twice in the first inning to take an early lead. Justin Tucker drove in the first run with an RBI single, while Jordan Treadwell added another with a sacrifice fly. Grossmont responded with a two-run home run in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game, but Palomar quickly regained control in the third.

Treadwell delivered again in the third inning with a two-run single to push the Comets ahead 4-2. From there, the Palomar pitching staff took over, holding the Griffins scoreless for the remainder of the game.

Starting pitcher Brandon Bollerer improved to 5-0 on the season with another stellar outing, throwing 5.1 innings while allowing just two runs on four hits and striking out seven. Lucas Smith followed with 1.2 scoreless innings in relief before Jacob Imoto closed out the final two frames, earning his fourth save of the year with three strikeouts.

Offensively, Tucker led the way, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two stolen bases. Treadwell finished 1-for-3 with three RBIs, while Brendan Shanahan reached base twice and scored a run.

Palomar (19-7, 10-1 PCAC) will look to keep its momentum going when the series shifts to San Marcos for Game 2 on Thursday afternoon.
