No. 12 Palomar Holds Off San Diego Mesa for 8-6 Road Victory

SAN DIEGO, CA (3/4/2025) -- The No. 12-ranked Palomar College baseball team picked up a hard-fought 8-6 road win over San Diego Mesa College on Tuesday afternoon, never trailing in the game as they maintained a slim lead before pulling away late. The victory improves the Comets to 10-7 overall and 2-1 in PCAC play, with a quick turnaround for a rematch against Mesa on Wednesday due to impending weather.

Comets Stay in Control

Palomar struck early, plating runs in the first three innings to build a steady lead. Justin Tucker drove in a run with an RBI single, while Christian Grino delivered a two-run hit to keep the Comets in front.

San Diego Mesa remained within striking distance, but the Comets never relinquished their lead. Heading into the ninth inning with a one-run advantage, Palomar came up clutch. Hunter Stencil provided a key two-run single, and Jacob Loving added an RBI hit, giving the Comets the breathing room they needed. Mesa managed a late run, but Joey Halter came in and shut the door to secure the victory.

Strong Pitching Secures Win

  • Brandon Bollerer delivered four innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out three.
  • Tait Karlson followed with two innings of one-run relief, striking out two.
  • Mason Garris (W, 1-0) earned the win with 2.1 innings of relief, despite allowing two runs.
  • Joey Halter locked down the final two outs to record the save.
