
Palomar Walks Off Cypress in Extra-Inning Thriller
SAN MARCOS, CA (2/17/2025) -- The Palomar College baseball team secured a dramatic 3-2 walk-off victory over Cypress College in extra innings on Monday afternoon, capping off a thrilling comeback at home.
Trailing 2-0 entering the eighth inning, the Comets fought back to tie the game before Nate Smith delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the tenth, sending the home crowd into celebration.
Late-Inning Comeback
Cypress (5-4) took an early lead, scoring single runs in the second and fourth innings. Palomar struggled to generate offense against Cypress starter Brandon Wyland, who tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just four hits.
The Comets finally broke through in the eighth. Carter Jorissen drove in Palomar's first run with an RBI single, and Adrian Macias followed with a clutch RBI double to tie the game at 2-2.
After Mason Garris and Lucas Smith kept Cypress off the board in the late innings, Palomar delivered in the tenth. With runners on base, Smith lined a double into the gap, bringing home Justin Tucker for the walk-off win.
Strong Pitching Performance
Palomar's pitching staff was excellent throughout the game, holding Cypress to just two runs (one earned) on seven hits.
- Brandon Bollerer started and pitched 3.1 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits with four strikeouts.
- Michael Getzinger followed with 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, surrendering just one hit while striking out two.
- Mason Garris dominated over three innings, striking out three while allowing no hits.
- Lucas Smith (W, 1-0) pitched a perfect tenth inning to earn the win.
