Comet bats come to life in 17-5 road win

GLENDALE, CA (1/31/2024) -- The Palomar College Baseball team found their way back into the win column on Wednesday with a 17-5 road game victory over Glendale College. 

Hunter Stencil hit a home run in the top of the first to get the Comets on the board, but the lead didn't last long as the Vaqueros took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Comets regained the lead in the seventh inning when Makana Olaso hit a 2-run home run. Palomar then exploded for six runs in both the eighth and ninth innings. Glendale scored two more runs in the bottom of the eighth. 

Noah Lazuka finished the day 3-4 with two RBI, two walks and two runs. Stencil finished 2-3 with two RBI, three walks and two runs. Colby Rafail was the only other Comet with multiple hits, finishing 2-6 with five RBI and two runs. Rafail had a double and a triple, while Lazuka had a double. 

The Comet pitching staff had another stellar performance. Holden Carpenter was the starter, throwing three innings in which he allowed one run on three hits and struck out four. Nathaniel Helton pitched two innings and allowed two runs on four hits. Brandon Bollerer was the winning pitcher with one inning of relief. Lucas Smith and Cade Johnson both pitched an inning a piece and Cameron Rowe struck out the side to close out the game. 

Palomar moves to 2-1 on the season and is scheduled to play a home-and-home series against Fullerton College depending on the weather.
