Comets claim top seed for SoCal Regionals

SAN MARCOS, CA (4/30/2023) -- The Palomar College baseball team has done it. They have claimed the No. 1 seed for the California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Regionals. 

The Comets, who just finished an impressive 24-1 conference schedule, will host a best-of-three series against East Los Angeles College starting Friday, May 5th. The first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. Game 2 will be played on Saturday, game time has yet to be determined, will an if necessary game three scheduled for roughly 30 minutes after that. 

Palomar finished the regular season 33-6, the second best record in the state, followed by Butte College up north who finished with five losses. The Comets claimed their 18th conference title in program history two weeks before the conference season was set to end. This is the 18th SoCal Regionals appearance by the Comets since the 2000 season and the third time they've had the No. 1 seed. 

The remaining seeds are No. 2 Saddleback College (29-10), who the Comets split a series with earlier this season, No. 3 Riverside City College (28-11), a series sweep for the Comets, No. 4 Santa Ana College (26-14) and No. 5 Cypress College (26-13). 

The 12 winners from round one will compete in the Super Regional round May 11-13 in a double elimination. Four from that round will compete in the Regional Finals May 19-21 in a best-of-three and remaining two teams will head to Folsom, CA for the Final Four.
