Comets bounce back to take series

CHULA VISTA, CA (4/28/2023) -- After suffering their first loss of the conference schedule on Tuesday, the Palomar College baseball team was able to come back and win the next two to take the series. On Thursday the Comets won 10-7 and 4-1 on Friday. 

In the conference finale, starting pitcher Kyle Carr showed he's ready for the postseason, pitching six innings and striking out 13 in the process. He allowed just one hit and the Jaguars were held hitless and scoreless until the ninth inning when Mike Villani gave up a hit and a run. The Hamro brothers packed the two middle innings. Wyatt struck out the side, while Carson struck out two. 

On the offensive side, the Comets scored two in the top of the fifth as Carter Hain had a two RBI single. The first run came one a fielder's choice and then error by the Jaguars in the third. Caden Szuba then singled in the top of ninth to give the Comets a 4-0 lead. 

In Thursday's game, the Comets were down 4-0 in the second, but were able to get one back in the bottom of the inning and two more in the bottom of the third. They erupted for five runs in the fifth thanks to a couple of doubles and a single to take a 9-6 lead. The final run for the Comets came in the seventh on a Jack Sanders single. 

Palomar finishes the regular season 33-6 overall and 24-1 in conference play. Playoff seeding meetings will be on Sunday.
