Comets batted down by Pirates in 11-2 loss

COSTA MESA, CA (2/4/2020) – Palomar traveled to Orange Coast College for a nonconference matchup and lost 11-2.

The Comets got a run across the plate in the sixth inning on a single by Kellen McCoy to score Brady LaVoie to tie the game at one. The Pirates got four more runs in their half of the inning and four more in the seventh. Palomar was able to score once more in the eighth when Micah Anselmo had a sac fly to scored Alex Blaszyk.

Dane Padrnos (1-1) was the starting pitcher and pitched 5.2 innings. In the 27 batters he faced, he allowed five runs on seven hits, walked two batters and struck out four. Blaszyk allowed four runs on six hits and had one strikeout in the 1.1 innings he pitched. James Benham closed for the Comets. In his debut, he allowed two runs on two hits, walked two batters and struck out one.

The Comets move to 3-2 on the season.
