SAN MARCOS (6-19-2017) -- Left-handed relief pitcher Ryan Semon, who went 9-0 during his freshman season, has been named to the 2017 CCCAA All-State first team.

Semon is joined on the first team by sophomore outfielder Joey Cooper, whose .434 batting average led the 2017 Comets and ranks him No. 6 on the all-time Palomar list.

Semon, pitching all of his 52 2/3 innings out of the bullpen, broke the Comets' single-season record for most wins without a loss set by current University of Kansas left-hander Taylor Turski, who compiled an 8-0 mark in 2015.

Cooper, out of Highland High School in Bakersfield, and Semon, a 6-foot-0, 175-pound redshirt freshman out of Valley Center High School, also both were selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-America second team representing the ABCA's Pacific Division (Southern California / Northern California / Oregon / Washington). The California and Pacific Northwest teams are not affiliated with the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Semon's nine wins all came during the regular season. He also appeared in Palomar's only post-season victory, recording one of his two 2017 saves, as the Comets dropped a first-round best-of-3 series to Los Angeles Mission 2 games to 1.

The Comets' Cameron Haskell, who signed early with the University of Arizona, was selected to the all-state second team as a utility player. Haskell hit .357 with 14 doubles, 2 triples and 7 home runs. Haskell's RBI total places him sixth on the all-time Palomar list.
