Comets Split Matches Against MiraCosta and San Diego Miramar, Move to 4-4 in PCAC Play

SAN DIEGO, CA (3/28/2025) -- Palomar College women's beach volleyball continued Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) action on Thursday, splitting a pair of matches at San Diego Miramar College. The Comets dropped a 5-0 decision to a strong MiraCosta College squad before rebounding with a dominant 5-0 sweep over San Diego Miramar. The results move Palomar to 4-4 in conference play and 7-8 overall.

In their first match of the day, the Comets ran into a tough MiraCosta team that handed them a 5-0 loss. While Palomar's No. 2 team of Brisa Necochea and Kylana Madayag kept things close, they ultimately fell 21-14, 21-19. The No. 1 pair of Janell Spires and Emma Bambe also pushed back but couldn't find the edge against MiraCosta's No. 1 pair.

Cadence Young and Kaia Lam were unable to overcome MiraCosta's sharp play at No. 3, falling 21-7, 21-10. Mariah Flores and Kiana Merrill dropped their No. 4 matchup 21-12, 21-13, while Bailey Prieto and Teiora Tinoisomoa rounded out the match with a 21-8, 21-17 loss at No. 5.

Palomar quickly turned things around in their second match of the day, dominating San Diego Miramar College from top to bottom. Spires and Bambe recorded a stunning 25-1, 25-0 victory in a forfeit-boosted matchup. Necochea and Madayag came through in a tight second set to win 21-13, 22-20 at No. 2.

Young and Lam were flawless at No. 3, cruising to a 21-4, 21-4 win. Flores and Merrill added to the sweep with a three-set win, bouncing back from a second-set loss to take the third 15-6. Prieto and Tinoisomoa wrapped things up with a strong 21-15, 21-8 performance.

With just a few matches remaining in the regular season, the Comets are building momentum heading into the final stretch. They'll look to continue their push in conference play with eyes on postseason positioning.
