
Palomar Battles Tough Competition, Eyes Rebound in Upcoming PCAC Matches
OCEANSIDE, CA (3/7/2025) -- The Palomar College women's beach volleyball team took on familiar opponents in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) play, facing San Diego Mesa College for the second time this season before squaring off against MiraCosta College. Despite strong efforts from multiple pairs, the Comets dropped both matches, falling 5-0 to Mesa and 4-1 to MiraCosta.
Against San Diego Mesa, Palomar fought hard but was unable to overcome a talented Olympians squad. The No. 1 pairing of Janell Spires and Emma Bambe put together a competitive match but fell 21-18, 21-15 to Myah Gomez and Jaiden Mojica. Brisa Necochea and Kylana Madayag pushed their opponents to the limit in the No. 2 match, forcing extra points in the first set before ultimately losing 23-21, 21-16.
Cadence Young and Kaia Lam struggled against a strong No. 3 duo from Mesa, falling 21-7, 21-13, while Teiora Tinoisamoa and Bailey Prieto dropped their No. 4 matchup 21-15, 21-8. The No. 5 pair of Mariah Flores and Kiana Merrill came close to forcing a third set but ultimately lost 21-9, 22-20.
In their second match of the day, the Comets faced off against MiraCosta College in a competitive battle that saw multiple pairs take their matches to three sets. Palomar's lone victory came in the No. 2 spot, where Necochea and Madayag rallied after dropping the first set to win 15-21, 21-18, 25-13 against Daysha Halbert and Dani Szajkowski.
Spires and Bambe nearly grabbed another point for Palomar at No. 1, but after winning the first set, they fell 21-11, 16-21, 15-12 to Alexis Jones and Kiara Keibel. The No. 3 duo of Young and Lam put up a fight but lost 21-12, 21-17, while Flores and Merrill at No. 4 fell 21-10, 21-15. The No. 5 pairing of Prieto and Tinoisamoa also forced a third set but came up short, losing 21-10, 12-21, 15-10.
Despite the losses, the Comets showed resilience and improvement, with several pairs pushing their matches to decisive sets. Palomar will look to bounce back when they continue PCAC play on Friday against San Diego Miramar College and Mt. San Jacinto College at San Diego Miramar College.
