Palomar College Women's Beach Volleyball Kicks Off Season in Palm Springs

PALM SPRINGS, CA (1/31/2025) -- The Palomar College women's beach volleyball team opened their season with a competitive three-match series in Palm Springs, facing off against strong opponents. The Comets showed resilience and determination throughout the tournament, ultimately securing a victory in their final match.

In their season opener, Palomar faced Ottawa University's A Team but fell 5-0. Despite the tough loss, the Comets put up a fight in several sets, with Janell Spires and Emma Bambe leading the charge in the top-seeded match before falling 21-15, 21-10.

The Comets then took on Ottawa University's B Team, where they managed to earn a point in a hard-fought 4-1 loss. Spires and Bambe secured Palomar's lone victory of the match with a commanding 21-16, 21-14 win over Gabriella Corrales and Sam Baer.

Determined to finish strong, Palomar bounced back against College of the Desert, claiming a 4-1 victory. Spires and Bambe dominated in the top-seeded match, winning 21-6, 21-8, while the duo of Cadence Young and Teiora Tinoisamoa clinched another key point with a 21-11, 21-16 win. Additional victories from Mariah Flores and Kiana Merrill, as well as Claire Henderson and Ava Watson, sealed the Comets' first triumph of the season.

Palomar's performance showcased both its potential and areas for growth as the team looks ahead to upcoming matchups. With a mix of veteran leadership and emerging talent, the Comets are eager to build on their first win and continue their pursuit of a successful season.
