Spires and Jarvis PCAC runners-up; seeded No. 5 at Regionals
MURRIETA, CA (4/26/2024) -- Janell Spires and Sonsi Jarvis have been on a tear the last two weeks. After upsetting the No. 1 pair in the conference, Spires and Jarvis were given the No. 5 seed in the PCAC tournament.
They started their tournament against No. 12 Samdrea Hsu and Julia Kallen from Miramar and won to advance to day two. They then met No. 4 Emily Eltrich and Victoria Goff from San Diego Mesa College. In a tough battle, the two Comets had to face the PCAC Duo of the Year in No. 1 Myah Gomez and Kailyn Jager, whom the Comets had upset just the week before. They toppled the top seed to advance to the Finals to face San Diego Miramar's Jaalyn Sotoa and Natalie Repetti. Spires and Jarvis were up 14-7 in the first set, but the Jets found some fuel to take set one 21-19. The two pairs battled it out in the second set, but Miramar ultimately won the battle for the title.
As the PCAC runners-up, Spires and Jarvis have advanced to the 3C2A SoCal Regionals at El Camino College on Friday and Saturday. They are seeded No. 5 and will face the No. 28 seed in Packet and Utterback from Orange Coast College. The duo will only need to win one match to advance to the State Tournament held at West Valley College.
