Comets Off To 4-0 Start To Begin 2017

HUNTINGTON BEACH (2-24-2017) / CARLSBAD (3-03-2017) -- Coach Karl Seiler's Palomar beach volleyball team opened the season with four straight nonconference victories the past two weekends, all by 4-1 scores.

On Friday, Feb. 24, the Comets defeated Fullerton and Golden West in Huntington Beach. Then, on Friday, March 3, Palomar topped boht Fullerton and Los Angeles Pierce at Frazee Beach in Carlsbad.

In the Feb. 24 win over Fullerton, the comets' Kianna Niu and Brittany Mitchell won 21-11, 21-8 at No. 1. Colleen Jones and Ashley Aubele won 21-13, 21-12 at No. 2. Kelsey Payne and Lisa Eldridge were 21-9-, 21 11 winners at No. 3. Sammy Campos and Larissa Vela won 21-8, 21-14 at No. 4. The Hornets won at No. 5 by forfeit.

The same duos also won against Golden West the same day, Niu and Mitchell by 21-11, 21-18; Jones and Aubele by 22-20, 21-19; Payne and Eldridge by 21-18, 20-22, 15-12; and Campos and Vela by 21-15, 18-21, 15-3. The Comets forfeited at No. 5.

Against Pierce, Niu/Mitchell won by 21-19, 21-18; Jones/Aubele by 21-23, 21-18, 15-13; Payne/Eldridge by 21-19, 19-21, 15-8; and Campus/Vela by 21-16, 21-16 at No. 4. The Comets again forfeited at No. 5.
