Bio

A graduate of Orange Glen High School in Escondido, Randy Hartman immediately became the No. 1 runner for the best cross country team in Palomar College history, the 1967 team guided by Coach Larry Knuth. The following spring, as a member of Coach Doc Marrin’s Comet track and field team, Hartman won the California Community College state championship in the 2-mile run. He went on to an outstanding distance-running career at UCLA, where, as a senior in 1970, he paced the Bruins to a dual cross country meet victory over cross-town and Pacific 8 Conference-rival USC, finishing first among all runners. At the Pac-8 championship meet later that season, Hartman and the Bruins’ unbeaten season ended versus legendary US Olympians Steve Prefontaine of Oregon and Gerry Lindgren of Washington State.
