Bio

A two-time all-state selection and 1991 California Pitcher of the Year, Downey came out of El Camino High School to pitch coach Mark Eldridge's Comets to back-to-back conference and Super Regional championships, a second-place state finish as a freshman and fourth-place state finish as a sophomore. Her 274 strikeouts during the 1991 season was fifth on the all-time Palomar list at the time. Moving on to pitch for Boston University, Downey recorded 52 pitching wins in 1992 and 1993, was a two-time conference Pitcher of the Year and still is second on the Terriers' all-time ERA career list (0.66), is tied for first on their all-time complete-game list (31) and is third in single-season strikeouts (188 in 1993). Downey is a member of the Boston University Hall of Fame. After her her Division I career, she returned to California as a high school coach.
