Bio

Billy Dunckel led Coach Bob Vetter’s Palomar College Baseball Team to back-to-back Pacific Coast Conference championships in 1988 and 1989, the program’s first consecutive titles since 1962. A Fallbrook High School grad, Dunckel still owns the school’s best single-season (.468) and career batting averages (.414) of all-time. He moved on to San Diego State University, where he batted .330 as a junior and .332 as a senior, while driving in 89 runs over two seasons and being selected as a third-team All-American. He went on to play in the California Angels’ farm system until an arm injury ended his career. The former head baseball coach and current head softball coach at Valley Center High School, Dunckel is married to former Comet softball-star Christy Westerlund. Their daughter, Brie, recently completed her career as an all-state softball player for the Comets.
