Baseball/Football 1961-63

A 1960 graduate of Assumption High School in Davenport, Iowa, Paul "Pablo" Castro came half-way across the country to become Palomar College's Most Outstanding Athlete. A talented end who was named MVP of the football in 1962. Castro was a powerful right-handed pitcher and a blossoming major-league prospect. An All-South Central Conference selection in both sports, he led the Comets to a conference baseball title, going the distance in a tense 14-inning championship game versus Oceanside JC, which finally ended when his triple drove in the winning run. Castro completed his four year degree at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois in 1966. Following three-years in the US Army. he enjoyed a successful 29-year career in eduaction, serving as a high school faculty member, football and wrestling coach and eventual school borad member in Bettendorf, Iowa.
