Palomar ranked No. 20 in California in final state poll

SAN MATEO (1/05/2018) – Palomar, which went 6-5 during the 2018 season, is ranked No. 20 in the final California Community College Football Coaches Association Poll compiled by the JC Athletic Bureau.

State champion Laney College of Oakland (11-2), which defeated Ventura in the CCCAA State Championship game, not surprisingly garnered every first-place vote to be ranked No. 1.

It was the first state title and No. 1 state ranking since the Eagles won mythical state and J.C. Grid-Wire national titles in 1966, prior to state playoffs being brought back in California. The 1966 Laney team defeated O.J. Simpson-led City College of San Francisco in the Prune Bowl at San Jose State's Spartan Stadium to complete an unbeaten season.

This year's final state poll ranks Ventura (11-2) second, Riverside City College (11-1) third, College of the Canyons (10-1) No. 4 and Fresno City College (9-3) at No. 5.
