Comets even PCAC record at 1-1 by blanking Jaguars

CHULA VISTA (9-13-2018) – Palomar evened its Pacific Coast Athletic Conference men's soccer record at 1-1 on Friday, going on the road and defeating Southwestern College 2-0.

After a scoreless first half the Comets took a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute when Bryan Covarrubias, a freshman from Vista High School, broke the ice by scoring the first goal of the afternoon off an assists by Tony Girgis, a freshman from Valley High in Escondido.

Joseph Renteria, a sophomore out of Vista Murrieta High, added the second Palomar goal in the 90th minute, assisted by Andy Perez, a freshman from Temecula Great Oak High.

Caleb Daza, a freshman from Carlsbad High, went the entire way at goalkeeper for the Comets to record the shutout.

Palomar is 2-3-1 overall. Southwestern slipped to 1-7 on the year, 1-1 in conference play.

The Comets will return to action on Tuesday at 1 p.m. when they play host to San Bernardino Valley at Minkoff Field.
