Palomar's men's soccer team turns back rival MiraCosta 3-1

SAN MARCOS (9-21-2018) – Palomar turned back rival MiraCosta in the teams' California Highway 78 Civil War match-up in men's soccer on Friday, winning 3-1 at Minkoff Field.

Aaron Garcia, Jessi Piazza and Edy Saucedo scored goals for the Comets. Tyler Eldridge assisted on two goals, and Daniel Bukari played all 90 minutes in goal.

Palomar took a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal in the 13th minute by Garcia, a sophomore from Temecula Great Oak High School.

Piazza, a freshman from Lighthouse Christian Academy in Pensacola, Florida upped the Comets' advantage to 2-0 on a penalty kick assisted by Eldridge, a freshman out of Temecula Chaparral High School, in the 50th minute.

The visiting Spartans got on the scoreboard in the 51st minute on a goal by Rafael Carmeico, trimming the Palomar lead to 2-1.

But Edy Saucedo, a sophomore from Ramona High School, put the game away for the Comets on a penalty kick in the 56th minute off another Eldridge assist.

Daniel Bukari, a freshman out of South klake High School in Reston, Virginia, played the entire 90 minutes in goal for Palomar.

The Comets evened their Pacific Coast Athletic Conference record at 2-2 with the victory. Palomar is 3-4-1 on the season.

The Spartans are 1-3 in conference and 1-7 overall.

Next up for Palomar, an away game with PCAC rival San Diego City College this upcoming Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 1 p.m.
