PC ties nationally No. 5-ranked SBVC, places 2nd; Lopez AOTW

SAN MARCOS (11-10-2017) -- Palomar goalkeeper Rosa Lopez recorded 10 saves Friday, including four in a short time period in the second half that preserved the Comets' 0-0 tie with the nation's fifth-ranked community college women's soccer team, San Bernardino Valley, at Minkoff Field. She was honored as Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for her performance.

The stunning result of the final game of the 2017 season catapulted coach Hector Hernandez's Comets into a final undisputed second-place finish in the PCAC North Division, trailing only the championship team, San Bernardino.

The Wolverines finished the conference season with a 9-0-1 record for 28 points and will take an 18-1-2 record into the Southern California Regionals. The Comets finish 5-3-2 for 17 points. Mt. San Jacinto and MiraCosta finish tied for third place, with 5-4-1 conference records, good for 16 points.

Palomar ends the year 8-9-4 overall.

Rojas is a freshman from Guajome Park Academy, located in Oceanside but a part of the Vista Unified School District.

While Rojas was recording her 10 saves in 90 minutes, Palomar was peppering San Bernardino Valley's defense with eight shots on goal, five by the very active Alexia Bruzzi.
