Semon (Kansas), McKenna (Oklahoma), Sidney (Penn) sign on first day

SAN MARCOS (11-09-2017) -- Palomar sophomores Ryan Semon, Conor McKenna and Josh Sidney sign with NCAA Division I universities on Wednesday, the first day of the week-long National Letter of Intent early signing period.

Semon, a left-handed pitcher who was 9-0 out of the bullpen last season with two saves and a 1.54 earned run average, signed with the University of Kansas.

The Valley Center High School product was a first-team All-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference selection, first-team California All-State and an American Baseball Coaches Association second-team Community College All-American in 2017. All nine of his wins came in relief. Semon also was the PCAC Reliever of the Year.

Conor McKenna, a third baseman who came to Palomar from Carlsbad High School, like Semon is headed to the Big-12 Conference. He signed with the University of Oklahoma. McKenna was a first-team All-PCAC pick as a freshman. He hit .365 with 12 doubles, two triples and 27 RBIs.

And Josh Sidney, a right-handed pitcher who was 4-1 for the Comets as a freshman, is headed to the Ivy League. He signed with the University of Pennsylvania. Sidney is a Torrey Pines High School product who was an All-PCAC honorable mention selection last season.

All three players will transfer to their new schools after their sophomore seasons at Palomar this upcoming spring.
