Comets dominate in first-ever home dual

Comets family and friends,

This past Wednesday, the Lady Comets hosted their first ever home dual meet against Bakersfield College. I was very happy with our performance, as I feel that we completely dominated across the board.

Combined, the team went 8-0 with 7 pins.

Individual wins came from:

  • 109 Preciosa Moreno (2 pins)
    • Simply put, Preciosa goes out and just keeps fighting, even if she's behind on the scoreboard. This is highly valuable quality for a wrestler and the reason she's still undefeated this year. Keep up the great work, Preciosa!
  • 123 Pir'Shaih Dickerson (2 pins)
    • P has gotten only a few chances to wrestle this season, with a few of her matches being exhibitions. So far, she's been completely dominant. I'm excited to get her some more matches against some other schools!
    • Alexa did her job and found a way to win. After getting caught in a head and arm throw early on, she kept wrestling and was able to take down her opponent and pin her with under a minute remaining in the match. When Alexa commits to her attacks, she's hard to stop!
    • One of the highlights of the dual for me is seeing Santana use the single leg technique we worked on to get a takedown and seal the win. She battles hard every single match, and it's great to see her hard work starting to pay off. It was an added bonus that Santana had her three kids and husband in the stands supporting her.
  • 148 Kyla Pattillo (pin)
    • On Wednesday, Kyla extended her winning streak to five matches. She's starting to get back in her groove after not competing for a while. Kyla has been looking really solid, and I'm excited to see how much she can improve by the end of the season.
    • Sierra went out and took care of business as expected, even though she was feeling under the weather. At this point, Sierra continues to separate herself from her competition and prepare for the national level.

This was a tremendous step in the right direction for our program and a testament to the work that many of us have put in to get this team off the ground. However, as always, there is a lot of work to do to bridge the gap between where we are now and where this program needs to be. On to the next…

What's Next

Up next, we'll host East Los Angeles College in another home dual meet on March 28th. They will have a full lineup, but our small group will be ready for another fight. We will continue to train and improve with every new week.
