JANUARY STATE ATHLETES OF THE MONTH

WOMEN
Deajanae Harvey, Palomar College, basketball, sophomore, guard
Harvey was a dominating presence for the Comets in a 7-0 month for the then undefeated state #1-ranked team. She averaged 27 points, 9 rebounds, 7.7 steals and 5 assists during January. In a PCAC win over Cuyamaca, she poured in her season high of 43 points (hit 19 of 23 from the floor) and made 11 steals in a rare type of double-double. In a victory over San Diego Mesa, she just missed a triple-double with 33 points, 13 rebounds and 9 steals. Harvey led the state in steals, was second in scoring average, and fifth in assists. She was named SoCal Player of the Year in both of her seasons as well as 2-time PCAC MVP. Harvey served in the Army National Guard and had a 5-year layoff from competitive basketball between high school and enrolling at Palomar in 2021.
