SAN MARCOS, CA (1/31/2020) – Friday night the women's basketball team was back to their usual style of play. The high-scoring Comets defeated the Grossmont College Griffins 85-25 in their second round of conference play.
Sophomore guard Nikki Mayoral once again was the leading scorer for the Comets with 16 points shooting 42 percent at the three-point line. She also flew around and nabbed seven rebounds, four of which were offensive. Aaliyah Taylor finished the night with 14 points, six rebounds and three steals. After nabbing 11 rebounds on Wednesday night, Lauren Hecker had another big rebounding night crashing the boards for nine total rebounds.
As a team, the Comets shot 38 percent in the field compared to the Griffins' 19.5 percent. The women committed 13 turnovers but caused 31 to score 41 points.
The Comets improve to 21-2 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
