Comets win big at Fullerton Quad

FULLERTON, CA (2/9/2024) -- The Palomar Men's Volleyball team competed in the Fullerton College Quad on Friday and won both games. First up was against host Fullerton, in which the Comets outlasted the Hornets in a five-set thriller.

Fullerton took set one and the Comets answered with a 25-23 and 25-17 set two and three win before Fullerton took set four to force the fifth set. The Comets dug deep and walked away with a 15-8 set win to collect their match win of the season.

Sophomore Tyler Yraceburn led the Comets with 18 kills on 22 attacks while sophomore Asher Palpallatoc finished with 13 kills on 17 attacks. Ethan Davis dished out 23 assists, while Palpallatoc led the team with eight digs. Yraceburn finished with 11 total blocks. The Comets hit .480 in their first match of the day.

In game two, Palomar faced Santiago Canyon College and won 3-1. Palomar took set one 25-20, but the Hawks responded with a close 25-22 set two victory. The Comets took set three 25-23 and ran away with the match in set four with a 25-19 victory.

Palpallatoc continued his attacking success in the match, finishing with a team-high 13 kills. Pedro Garcia ended the day with 10. Davis dished out 29 assists to go along with five digs., while Yraceburn finished with eight kills and 11 assists. Sophomore Aiden Scripps had a team-high 12 digs. Yraceburn also finished with seven blocks, while Ty Bargfrede finished with eight.

The Comets advance to 2-1 on the season and will host LA Pierce College on Friday at 6 p.m. in the Dome.
