Comets head to final tournament of preconference play

SAN MARCOS, CA (12/2/2021) -- The Comets have posted a 5-2 record through their first seven games this season, with losses to San Diego Miramar College and L.A. Harbor College. 

In their first tournament, they faced Orange Coast College, Miramar and MiraCosta College and finished in 3rd place at the Don Gehler Memorial Tournament. The Comets cruised past Orange Coast 91-71 to face one of their PCAC rivals in the second round. In their first matchup of the season, the Comets and Miramar Jets went back and forth in a hard-fought battle with the Jets winning 64-58. Freshman standout Andrew Milot posted 12 points and five rebounds in that game while freshman Mickey Chew finished with 10 points, three rebounds, an assist and one steal. They rounded out the tournament by taking down the MiraCosta Spartans 85-79.

Last weekend the Comets hosted the annual Palomar Thanksgiving Tournament. They rolled past Moorpark College 84-61, Orange Coast 79-70 and fell to L.A Harbor in overtime 84-75. 

The Comets are averaging a 42.7% field goal percentage and are shooting 31.8% beyond the arc. They are holding their opponents to 38.6% in the field and the Comet defense doesn't stop there. They average 9.7 steals a game, 1.3 blocks and 20.9 defensive rebounds. Sophomore Noah Woodby has been an offensive leader on the court shooting 19-40 at the 3-point line and is 39-77 inside the paint. 

The men travel to Grossmont College for their final tournament of the season this weekend. The tournament is bracket-style and the Comets will face Saddleback College on Friday at 4 p.m.
