Comets fight to the finish against Warriors

SAN MARCOS, CA (11/6/21)- On Saturday, the Palomar Comets took on El Camino in their 10th game of the season, this time finishing in a narrow 47-42 loss.

Palomar scored two touchdowns in the first quarter, with two rushing touchdowns from Zeke Payne (Rancho Bernardo). In the third quarter, Payne connected two touchdown passes to wide receiver by Brandon Johnson (El Camino). In the third and fourth quarter, Payne connected on another pair of touchdown passes to wide receiver Malachi Russell (El Camino). A wild defensive play that resulted in a safety gave Palomar the lead for good.

Payne went 28-39 for 431 yards and four touchdowns. Tawee Walker (Centennial) led the running backs group with 16 carries for 37 yards. Malachi Russell led the wide receivers' group with seven receptions for 126 yards and two touchdowns. Linebacker Luke Manos (Rancho Bernardo) recorded one sack, 10 tackles, including four for loss. Defensive back Josh Fletcher (Ramona) had four tackles and two pass breakups. Kicker Landon Ogles (Rancho Bernardo) made 1 field goal and 6 extra points.

The Comets put up 491 yards of total offense, 431 yards came from the air and 56 yards came from the ground. The defense gave up 450 yards, 352 yards came from the air and 98 came from the ground. The Comets committed 11 penalties for 123 yards on the night.

The Comets finish the regular season 5-5 and will wait to see if they receive a bowl game bid.
