Mounties best Comets on last second touchdown

SAN MARCOS, CA (11/6/21)- On Saturday, the Palomar Comets took on Mt San Antonio in their ninth game of the season, this time finishing in a narrow 45-48 loss.

Palomar scored a touchdown in the first quarter, with Edward Imgrund (Valley Center) catching a 51-yard pass from Zeke Payne (Rancho Bernardo). The Comets attempted a rally in the second half, starting with a 74-yard touchdown reception by Brandon Johnson (El Camino). In the fourth quarter with four minutes left, Payne connected on another touchdown pass to Tyler Pye (Amos P. Godby). Mt San Antonio responded by scoring the game-winning touchdown with 47 seconds left.

Payne went 25-42 for 382 yards and six touchdowns. Walker led the running backs group with 16 carries for 40 yards. Malachi Russell (El Camino) led the wide receivers' group with 9 receptions for 160 yards and two touchdowns. Defensive back Jean Louis (Boyd Anderson) recorded one sack, five tackles, including two for loss. Defensive back Ricky Davis Jr(Arbor View) had six tackles. Kicker Landon Ogles (Rancho Bernardo) made one field goal and six extra points.

The Comets put up 432 yards of total offense, 282 yards came from the air and 50 yards came from the ground. The defense gave up 511 yards, 133 yards came from the air and 378 came from the ground. The Comets committed eight penalties for 68 yards on the night.

The Comets move to 4-5 on the season and will face El Camino on the road on November 13th at 6 p.m.
