Football Preview: Week 3

SAN MARCOS, CA (9/15/2021)- It is week three of the football season for Palomar, as they travel to Southwestern College. The Comets are coming off a lopsided 31-3 loss to Golden West College.

Through two games, the Comets average 228 yards of offense while giving up 323 yards on the opposite side of the ball.

The Comets have done a great job of balancing their offense, picking up 13 first downs from the ground game and 14 first downs from the aerial attack. Look for the Comets to improve their 3rd down conversions rate, as they are only 9-28 (32%) on the year.

The strength of the Comets defense has been taking the football away, racking up a fumble and 5 interceptions, including two returned for touchdowns. The defensive front seven of the Comets surely look to improve their ability of pressuring the opposing team's quarterback, they only have recorded one sack through two games.

Comets quarterback Zeke Payne (Rancho Bernardo) looks to bounce back after an 18-34, one intereption performance. Tawee Walker (Centennial) leads the running backs group, as he averages 3.6 yards a carry. Tyler Pye (Amos P. Godby) leads the wide receivers group, with five catches for 41 yards last game.

The Comets defense is led by linebacker Vavega Sialoi (Vista), who has 11 tackles on the season. Defensive back Ricky Davis (Arbor View), has 2 interceptions to lead the Comets defense. Kicker Landon Ogles (Rancho Bernardo) has knocked down all six of his kicks, including two field goals and four extra points.

On the opposite side of the field, Jaguars QB Jimmy Inman has hit 12 of 26 pass attempts for 110 yards on the season. Running back number 10 Albert Robinson leads his team in rush yards, with 33 yards on 6 carries. Wide receiver number 30 Christian Jourdain has 5 receptions for 90 yards and a touchdown on the season.

The Jaguars' defense is led by Jaheem Williams, who already has 3 sacks on the season, as a safety! He also leads his team in tackles, with 12. Fellow safety Andrew Kick has 7 tackles on the year and on the interior, Jace Fuamatu has racked up 4 tackles and 1 sack. Jaguar kicker Asher Boothe is 2 for 2 on kicks on the year and continues to seek more kicking opportunities.

The Comets look for their second win of the season. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Southwestern.
