Bio

Lucy Gates brings 8 years of competitive playing experience and 4 years of coaching experience at many different levels to the Palomar program. Born and raised in San Diego she graduated from Oceanside High School in 2014. She went on to compete for the Palomar Comets as an attacker before transferring to California State University, Monterey Bay to continue her playing career. Her senior year at CSUMB she was named captain, was awarded the school’s female scholar-athlete award, and finished the water polo season with the team’s top overall stats. Lucy graduated magna cum laude with her B.S. in Kinesiology in 2018.

After graduating she returned to San Diego and began her coaching career at Palomar College while earning her Master’s Degree in Physical Education from Azusa Pacific University. During this time she also coached for Cathedral Catholic High School and Seaside Water Polo club. Since coaching at Palomar she has helped lead the comets to 2 conference victories.

Alongside water polo coaching, Lucy has experience as a surf and snowboard instructor, and when not on the pool deck loves these activities in her free time.
