Comets rally past roadrunners at home

SAN MARCOS, CA (8/31/2022) -- In their home opener against College of the Desert, Palomar College rallied after dropping the first set to the Roadrunners to win the match 3-1 for their second win of the season.

After a close first set (25-21), the Comets once again regrouped to completely dominate the second set winning it 25-15. They continued their momentum into the third and fourth sets. Down 19-15 in the fourth set, it seemed like the match was headed to a fifth set. The Comets had sophomore Kenna Broach on the line to serve and she delivered.

Coming all the back and serving the match point, Broach sent the ball over the net. Freshmen Savanna Lewis and Hope Ihem blocked the Roadrunners to which freshman Holland Hancock got the dig on the receiving end of a rocket by Desert. With a soft touch, Lewis got the ball back over and then sophomore Brynn Wallander blocked the Roadrunners one more time. The Roadrunners tried to softly place the ball right on the outside line to keep the match alive, but it was just outside sending the Comets and their fans into a frenzy.

Lewis had a team-high 19 kills, while Hancock and Ihem had 13 and 11, respectively. On the receiving end of the ball, Hancock had a team-high 14 digs, while Broach and Lewis had 13 and 11, respectively.

Palomar moves to 2-0 on the season and will head to Santiago Canyon College for a quad on Friday. They will face hosts Santiago Canyon at 2 p.m. before facing the Santa Ana College Dons at 4 p.m.
