Bio

Coach Mike Box brings over 30 years of coaching experience to Palomar. He began his collegiate coaching career in 2021, joining the program as a volunteer assistant to his son, Palomar head coach Tim Box.

Prior to Palomar, Mike has had notable success in his coaching positions throughout his many years giving back to the sport. These include North County Wrestling Club, Carlsbad Legacy Wrestling Club, Bakersfield Jr. Drillers Wrestling Club, and USA Beach Wrestling.

North County Wrestling Club has already had substantial success in its inaugural year (2022), boasting eight state medalists, six state finalists, four state champions, and a national All-American.

During his time with the Bakersfield Jr. Drillers Wrestling Club, Mike coached numerous athletes who would continue on to become high school state medalists, state champions, and national All-Americans. 

Mike was also part of the USA Beach Wrestling coaching staff in 2019, where he coached his son to a UWW Beach Wrestling world silver.

As a competitive wrestler, Mike wrestled for Butte College, where he was a CCCAA All-American. He then transferred to Chico State, where he would qualify for the NCAA Division II national tournament and become a 2x NCAA Academic All-American.

Mike and his wife, Mary, have three adult children, Anthony, Tim, and Anna, along with three granddaughters, Amelia, Sofia, and Erin.
