Comets have four medalists at State
Comets family and friends,
Saturday, the Comets competed at the CCCAA Championships at West Hills College in Lemoore. We had nine athletes wrestle at the championship tournament:
- Owen Wilson, 7th Place (2x CCCAA Medalist)
- Dustin Riquelme
- Dorian Parker
- JJ Gutierrez, 6th place
- Hassan Alexander
- Daniel Hernandez, 7th place
- Celso Silva, 4th Place (All-American)
- Jesus Rodriguez
- Javier Montoya
We finished in 9th place overall, which is not where we want to be but still a considerable step up from last season. We doubled the number of qualifiers and medalists from last year and had one All-American in Celso Silva. I'm so proud of our guys for trusting and committing to the process.
The goal remains the same: continue to build a championship mindset and culture at Palomar. And have fun doing it!

What's Next:
I'm excited to have our women's CCCAA season begin in early January. Our first competition will be the Cerritos open on January 28th (I will have the full schedule soon). If you know anyone interested in joining, please have them contact me. The opportunity to have women's wrestling in the CCCAA has been in the works for a very long time, and we need to make a statement if it's going to continue.
Our men's team will take some time off before staring off-season training. Catching teams like Mt. SAC and Cerritos isn't just going to happen; we need to keep our foot on the gas!
