Wrestling produces one champion at Santa Ana Tournament

SANTA ANA, CA (10/5/2019) – Wrestling competed in the Santa Ana Tournament on Saturday and finished in seventh place as a team. The Comets had one individual winner, Joseph Conroy won the 174 lb. weight class and was the Upper Weight MVP.

Conroy had a first-round bye and then faced Raymond Torres from Bakersfield and defeated him with a fall. In the third round, Conroy faced Liam Leckie from SCC and advanced to face Bakersfield's Jacob Annis in the semifinal round where he had his third fall. In the final round, he faced Scott Hokit of Bakersfield and won on a 2-1 decision.

In the 285 lb. weight class, Enrique Galicia had a win over Bakersfield's Donald Oliver in round two with a fall. He then defeated Leo Molina of Victor Valley to make it to the quarterfinals.

Wrestling will be competing at Mt. San Antonio College on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. for their first conference meet before their first home match on Saturday, Oct. 19 for the CCCAA State Dual Championship.
