Palomar Responds with Dominant Win Over Cuyamaca After First Conference Loss
SAN MARCOS, CA (1/30/2026) -- After suffering their first Pacific Coast Athletic Conference loss of the season at MiraCosta College, the Palomar women's basketball team responded Friday night, rolling past Cuyamaca College 101–45 inside The Dome to get back on track in conference play.
Palomar set the tone from the opening tip, holding Cuyamaca to just six first-quarter points and never looking back. The Comets continued to apply pressure throughout the night, outscoring the Coyotes in every quarter and erupting for 29 points in the third and 28 more in the fourth to put the game away.
The Comets showcased their depth and shooting touch, knocking down 22 three-pointers and finishing with 46 bench points. Kylee Trujillo led all scorers with 24 points, while Bailey Wavrik added 18 points, including five triples. Kami Gillis chipped in 15 points, and Myla Jones connected on four threes to finish with 12 points.
Inside, Kailani Flournoy recorded 10 points and 12 rebounds, and Mandy Frozina delivered a strong effort off the bench with 13 rebounds, helping Palomar dominate the glass 54–32. The Comets also converted 33 second-chance points and forced 29 turnovers in a complete bounce-back performance.
With the win, Palomar improves to 6–1 in conference play and quickly turns its focus back to the road. The Comets will travel to San Diego Mesa College on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. tipoff as PCAC action continues.
