Williams leads Comets to close win

WALNUT, CA (11/23/2022) -- No. 1 Palomar headed to No. 2 Mt. San Antonio College and won 56-53 in a nailbiter.

Down 18-11 after the first quarter, the Comets bounced back and outscored the Mounties 22-8 to take a 33-26 halftime lead. The Mounties responded in the third to tie the game heading into the fourth. That's when Palomar proved they were the better team. They dug down deep and pulled out the 18-15 quarter to win the game.

Sophomore Kayla Williams recorded her third double-double of the season as she went 7-15 in the field and 7-11 at the charity stripe for 21 points and recorded 10 rebounds. Sophomore Deajanae Harvey finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds for her third double-double as well. Sophomore Camille Sroufe rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 points. Sophomore Gabby Sebit was a blocking machine as she totaled seven on the day.

The Comets, who sit at 6-0 with the win, maybe rolling, but work still needs to be done. The Mounties won the rebounding battle 45-42 and the Comets committed 26 turnovers which led to 20 points for the Mounties. Palomar also went 12-25 at the free throw line, while Mt. SAC was 16-25.

Palomar will head to Cypress College next weekend for the Lady Charger Classic where they will face host Cypress College, Citrus College and East LA For the second time this season.
