No. 1 Palomar shows dominance in season opener

LOS ANGELES, CA (11/2/2022) -- In their season opener, No. 1 Palomar College traveled to No. 11 Los Angeles Trade Tech College and won 115-51 in dominating fashion.

The Comets return heavy-hitters from last season's Elite Eight appearance, including the CCCAA SoCal Player of the Year, Deajaenae Harvey, who put up 42 points, a career-high. Sophomore Kayla Williams posted her first double-double of the season with 15 rebounds and 16 points. Sophomores Camille Sroufe and Faith Schwantner each had 14 points. Schwantner also racked up seven steals and five boards. Harvey led the team with eight steals.

As a team, the Comets were 11-28 beyond the arc and held the Beavers to just two made treys all game. Palomar's chaos-causing defense caused 33 turnovers on which they went down to score 44 points. They committed just 15 turnovers themselves.

Palomar was named the No. 1 team in the South in the CCCWBCA preseason poll and they lived up to it in their season opener. They will travel to Mt. San Jacinto College Nov. 10th and 11th for the San Jacinto Lion's Club Tip-Off Tournament. They will face No. 6 Long Beach City College on Thursday at 4 p.m. before facing host No. 4 Mt. San Jacinto at 5 p.m. on Friday.
