SAN MARCOS, CA (12/29/2021) -- After a short hiatus, the women's basketball team was back in action right before the new year. They faced Santa Ana College in the PCAC/OEC Holiday Crossover event and walked away with a 96-45 dominating win. The next night they faced the Riverside City College Tigers and won 97-45.
The high-scoring Comets had six different players finish with double-digits. Freshman guard Deajanae Harvey had 50 points between the two games, scoring 31 against the Tigers. Sophomore guard Sara Ahmadpour finished with 22 against the Dons and 18 against the Tigers.
Palomar proved they're not all about the offense this week, as they held to their opponents to 15 or fewer points in a quarter. They forced 60 combined turnovers and had 33 steals to score 39 and 55 points, respectively, off the turnovers. Freshman guard Faith Schwantner and Harvey lead the Comet defense. The duo has a combined 14 blocks, 63 steals and 65 defensive rebounds on the season.
The women are sitting at an impressive 10-1 with their only loss coming from Mt. San Antonio College. They open PCAC play this week starting with Grossmont College on Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 6 p.m.
