Steffany signs to continue her softball career at San Jose State University

Over the past year, Farrah Steffany was determined to get back onto the ball field...

After her freshman season at the University of Pacific was cut short due to COVID in 2020, Steffany returned home to Oceanside, CA. It was hard to stay motivated academically without her usual outlet on the field & time with her teammates was taken away. While some teams played a reduced 2021 season, Steffany didn't return to the field to play. Being away from the game for quite some time, she missed competing, the comradery of her teammates, and being in the middle of the field throwing from the pitching mound. In late August, of 2021 Farrah decided she wasn't done playing competitive collegiate softball yet.

Picking everything up again after a year and a half away from the game, she had a hill to climb to get back into shape & compete – but she was dead set on the challenge. Steffany worked with the Palomar coaching staff daily to get back into the classroom and improve her academic standing. She would stay after practice with a bucket of balls and throw into a net to get her endurance back. On weekends you could find her at a local ball field pitching to her dad to get back in playing shape.

Come spring, Steffany was a primary pitcher for the Comets, splitting time in the circle with freshman India Caldwell. Steffany continued developing throughout the season and gained confidence as the season progressed. During the regular season she only allowed 24 runs in 97 innings. Steffany threw a complete game, no-hitter against San Bernardino Valley (12-0) in February and turned right around, in her next start and pitched another complete game shutout against Fullerton College (3-0). She finished the 2022 season with a 13-4 overall record and 1.58 ERA.

Steffany earned a General Studies Degree with an emphasis in Art and Humanities after 2 semesters at Palomar. She enters San Jose State planning to major in Communications. The ability to play at San Jose State is a dream come true for Steffany who had the determination and work ethic to return and play at the Division I level again. Steffany will have 3 years of eligibility to play for San Jose State, and she is fired up to contribute to the success of Spartan Softball in 2023!

Congratulations Farrah!!! Look forward to watching you continue your career as a Spartan!
