Comets sail past Pirates in game one

SAN MARCOS, CA (5/6/2022) -- In the midst of an electric atmosphere, the No. 6 seeded Palomar Comets routed the No. 11 Ventura Pirates 4-1 in round one of the CCCAA SoCal Regional.

In front of the largest crowd this season, Palomar struck first on a sac fly by Alexia Terrazas to score Allyson Amato in the bottom of the first. It was then Amato in the second, who hit an absolute 3-run bomb to left-center field for her first of the season.

India Caldwell allowed one run on four monster hits over the outfielder's heads. With one out in the top of the third, the Pirates doubled followed by a single to put runners on the corners. On a sac fly, Ventura scored their only run of the game. With two outs and runners on first and second following a walk, Caldwell pitched herself out of the inning, en route to 10 strikeouts, to maintain the Comet's lead. She later struck out the side to end the game in the top of the seventh.

The Comets and Pirates will face each other Saturday at noon for game two of the best-of-three series. If necessary, game three will be played approximately 20 minutes following game one.
