Comets bounce back in dominating 15-0 win over IVC

SAN MARCOS, CA (3/11/2022) -- After being shutout in a 1-0 pitching duel in game one against Imperial Valley College, the Comets resurrected their bats and won game two 15-0 in five innings. 

Palomar struck gold in the eighth innings scoring eight runs. Outfielder Alexia Terrazas got things going for the Comets with a lead-off single, followed by a double by second baseman Malachy Russell-Millen. First baseman Kelly Nutter then walked and Terrazas scored on a wild pitch that advanced the runners to second and third. Imperial Valley's picther dealt another walk to the Comets which loaded the bases. She then wlked another Comet to bring home Russell-Millen. Still with the bases loaded, outfielder Cadee Herrmann grounded out to first and was credited the RBI when Nutter scored. Followed by another pair of single RBIs by shortstop Samarah Martinez and Allyson Amato, Imperial Valley made a pitching change. With two outs in the inning, Martinez scored on a wild pitch and Amato advanced to third with Terrazas up to bat. Batting round, Terrazas hit a two-run bomb for runs seven and eight. 

The Comets scored 15 runs on 13 hits and recorded no errors. Sophomore pitcher Farrah Steffany pitched the complete shutout game. She allowed just three hits and struck out six batters to pick up her seventh win to stay perfect this season. 

Paloamr improves to 16-3 overall and 2-1 in PCAC play and sits atop the conference standings.
