Comets Earn First Win of the Season with Sweep Over El Camino
TORRANCE, Calif. – After a tough start to the season, the Palomar College men's volleyball team bounced back in dominant fashion, sweeping El Camino College 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-13) on the road Friday night. The victory marks the Comets' first win of the season, evening their record at 1-1.
Tyler Yraceburn led the charge for Palomar with a team-high 12 kills, hitting .250 while adding five digs and four block assists. Sebastian Gomez was also a force at the net, recording 10 kills with a .300 hitting percentage. Middle blocker Nolan Apodaca was highly efficient, tallying five kills on just nine attempts (.444) while contributing defensively with four block assists.
Setter Jacob Rangel orchestrated the offense with 27 assists, guiding the Comets to a .278 team hitting percentage. Palomar steadily improved throughout the match, culminating in an impressive .423 hitting clip in the final set to close out the win.
Defensively, the Comets controlled the match at the net with 18 block assists, stifling El Camino's attack and holding the Warriors to a -.013 hitting percentage. The Palomar back row, anchored by five digs apiece from Rangel and Yraceburn, kept plays alive to fuel the Comets' offensive rhythm.
With momentum on their side, Palomar now looks ahead to its return home on Wednesday, when the Comets will host Santa Monica College.
