PC Women, Men Both In 2nd After Day 1

SAN MARCOS (4-20-2017) -- Palomar's women's and men's swimming teams both finished day 1 of the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Championships at Wallace Memorial Pool in second place.

Going into Friday's second day of the the three-day meet, San Diego Mesa leads in men's scoring with 226 points, followed by the Comets in second place with 178 points. Grossmont (143) is third, with Southwestern (91) in fourth.

In the women's meet, Mesa leads with 281 points, followed by Pallomar (141) in second, Grossmont (125) in third and Southwestern (91) in fourth place.

The Comets' men's team won two finals events on the first day. Connor Baine placed first in the 50-yard freestyle with a 21.73 time, defeating second-place Mateo Vargas of Mesa who was clocked in 21:83. And Palomar's 400 medley relay team was awarded a first place in 3:51.60 when Grossmont and Mesa both were disqualified when their teams both re-entered the pool while Southwestern's team was still swimming.

Palomar appeared to win the women's 400 medley relay final but was disqualified, and Mesa was awarded first place.
