Football Week Eight Preview

SAN MARCOS, CA (10/31/2019) – Football is back home this weekend to take on El Camino College. The Comets are coming off a 55-42 loss to Fullerton College and looking for their first conference win of the season. El Camino is coming off a 43-40 loss to Mt. SAC last week after leading the entire game.

Palomar's offense has been the most successful in their passing game with an average of 305.1 yards. Quarterback Rodney Thompson has a completion percentage of 61.8 and averages 279 yards a game. Receiver Johnny Armentrout is coming off a record-breaking game where he had 183 yards against the Hornets. He leads the team with 607 yards on the season and is averaging 86.7 yards a game. Behind him is Kyran Griffin who has 602 yards on the season and averages 86 yards a game. Palomar's running game has picked up steam the last couple of game with Thompson lead the charge with 195 yards and an average of 27.9. Running back Damon Wigan has 180 yards on the season and has an average of 25.7 yards with four touchdowns.

Defensively, the Comets are averaging a sack a game and racked up four last week against Fullerton. Linebacker Kameron Camp leads the Comets with 7.4 tackles a game. He has six tackles-for-loss on the season for 10 yards and one interception for 22 yards. Yusuf Leigh has 2.5 sacks on the season for a loss of 13 yards and three tackles-for-loss for a total of 18 yards. Vavega Sialoi has had a spotlight on him the last few games as he racked up two sacks for a loss of 12 yards and five tackles-for-loss for 20 yards, three of which were last week, and one breakup. Sid Weddington has also been a silent killer as he's racked up two sacks for 10 yards and four tackles-for-loss for 13 yards. Emmit Vaiese joins Sialoi and Weddington with two sacks for 12 yards and two tackles-for-loss for 12 yards.

El Camino is averaging 361.6 yards of offense a game with 244.3 of those passing yards. Defensively, they give up 310.3 yards, 81.1 rushing and 229.1 passing. Opponents score an average of 26.6 points against the Warriors. The Comet defense allows 355.7 yards, 159.4 rushing and 196.3 passing and 32.1 points a game. 

In the last two meetings, El Camino has walked away with a win over Palomar. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Escondido High School on Saturday Nov. 2.
