Comets kickoff conference with loss to Mt. SAC

COVINA, CA (10/19/2019) – Football traveled to Mt. San Antonio College for their National Central League opener and lost 31-7.

The Comets started off slow when they were scoreless through two quarters of play. It wasn't until the third quarter that they scored on a 7-yard pass from Rodney Thompson to Kyran Griffin. Leading up to the touchdown, the Comets took advantage of two Mt. SAC penalties, an offsides call and a personal foul, and a handful of complete passes to Armentrout to set up the score.

Palomar ran 91 offense plays and totaled 325 yards, 268 passing and 57 rushing. Defensively, the Comets gave up 331 yards, 238 passing and 93 rushing.

Thompson was 35 for 63 and threw for 268 yards. He had one touchdown and two interceptions. Griffin had nine receptions for 93 yards with a long of 31 and one touchdown. Armentrout had 40 yards on five receptions with a long of 12 yards. Jeremiah Ruger racked up 37 yards on three carries with a long of 27 yards. Lamar Raboteau had 19 yards on seven carries. Damon Wigand had 16 yards on six carries.

Punter Preston Dennard had six punts on the night totaling 233 yards, pinned two inside the 20-yard line and had a career-long of 58 yards. Mark Meader had two kickoffs for 119 yards with an average of 59.5 yards.

Defensively, Kameron Camp had eight total tackles with one tackle-for-loss of two yards. Kobe Dominguez had seven tackles. Chris Calhoun ended the night with six tackles and a half tackle-for-loss of two yards. This was the first game of the season the Comets did not record a sack.

Palomar is now 2-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play. They will face Fullerton College next week at 1 p.m. at Yorba Linda High School.
