Palomar falls to Citrus in 33-24 loss

GLENDORA, CA (9/21/2019) – Palomar lost to Citrus College 33-24 in their second road game of the season.

The Comets got off to quick start, scoring their first touchdown in two plays going 62 yards in 0:36 to get on the board. Palomar kicked a field goal after Citrus scored two touchdowns to make the score 19-10 in Citrus' favor.

Right before the second quarter, Johnny Armentrout caught a 5-yard pass from Rodney Thompson to make the score 19-17. Palomar did not score again until the fourth quarter on a run from Damon Wigand who went 21-yards for the score.

The Comets had three fumbles on the day. One came when they were threatening to score and were on the 1-yard line. Citrus recovered the ball and went on to score on that drive.

Palomar had 360 total offensive yards. Thompson threw for 302 yards with a long of 45 yards. Damon Wigand was this week's leading rusher with 29 yards on seven carries and one touchdown. Logan Gamble was this week's leading receiver with 98 yards on six receptions and one touchdown.

The Comets had 58 rushing yards on 15 attempts with an average gain of 3.9 yards.

Defensively, Kobe Dominguez had 11 tackles on the day, followed by Yusuf Leigh who had eight and a sack for a loss of four yards. Giovanni Herrera had seven tackles and Jay Craft and Kameron Camp both had five tackles. The Comets allowed 325 yards, 134 passing and 191 rushing.

Palomar ran 59 plays and had an average gain of 6.1 yards.

Palomar falls to 1-2 and will face No. 11 Ventura College at home on Saturday at 6 p.m.
