Comets Clinch Fourth Consecutive Conference Title with Dominant 17-1 Victory Over Imperial Valley
SAN MARCOS, CA (4/22/2025) -- Palomar College baseball put on an offensive clinic in a decisive 17-1 victory over Imperial Valley College in the first game of their three-game series at Bob Vetter Field. The win not only earned the Comets their fourth straight conference championship but also boosted their ranking to No. 6 in the state. With the victory, Palomar now stands at 28-10 overall and 19-4 in conference play, further solidifying their spot at the top of the PCAC standings.
The Comets wasted no time showing their dominance, capitalizing on early opportunities and extending their lead in the middle innings. Palomar's explosive offense was led by Braedon Peterson-Cheek, who blasted a grand slam and drove in five runs, setting the tone for the game. AJ Klubeck added two RBIs, while Justin Tucker and Adrian Macias each chipped in with three RBIs apiece. Jacob Loving also had a strong performance at the plate, finishing with two hits and an RBI, contributing to the team's well-rounded offensive attack.
On the mound, Brandon Bollerer was nothing short of spectacular. The sophomore starter pitched six innings of one-run ball, allowing just five hits while striking out nine. Bollerer was in command throughout, showcasing his ability to keep the Imperial Valley hitters off balance. The bullpen also shined, with Chance Crawford and Mason Garris combining for three hitless innings, further sealing the win and keeping the visitors from mounting any offensive comeback.
Palomar's defense was flawless, committing no errors, while Imperial Valley struggled with a defensive miscue. The Comets' ability to capitalize on their opportunities and play clean baseball made the difference, especially as they tacked on five runs in the third and another eight in the eighth inning to break the game wide open.
The win on Tuesday marked a milestone for the program, as they clinched their fourth consecutive conference title, a remarkable feat that highlights the consistency and hard work of the team and coaching staff. This victory not only secures the championship but also places the Comets in a strong position as they continue to chase a high seed in the state tournament.
With the conference title now in hand, the Comets turn their attention to Thursday's game at Imperial Valley College, which is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. Palomar will look to complete the series sweep and continue their momentum as they prepare for the upcoming postseason.
