No. 7 Palomar Drops Series Opener to No. 25 Southwestern, 8-3

CHULA VISTA, CA (4/8/2025) --  In a battle of ranked teams, No. 7 Palomar College fell 8-3 to No. 25 Southwestern College on Tuesday afternoon in the opener of their three-game PCAC series at The Junction. The Comets were hurt by defensive miscues and a big sixth inning from the Jaguars, snapping Palomar's two-game win streak.

Palomar (22-10, 13-4 PCAC) scored early in the first on a sacrifice fly by Carter Jorissen, but Southwestern answered with three runs in the second and broke the game open with a five-run sixth inning. The Comets attempted a late rally in the seventh as Drake Cobb came through with a two-run single to trim the deficit, but the Jaguars' bullpen shut things down over the final two innings.

Braedon Peterson-Cheek led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Brendan Shanahan added a pair of hits and a walk, while Jordan Treadwell went 2-for-4 with a double. Cobb finished 1-for-1 with two RBIs off the bench.

Brandon Bollerer (5-2) took the loss, allowing five earned runs over five innings with three walks and a strikeout. The Comets committed four errors behind their pitching staff, contributing to three unearned runs.

Palomar will look to even the series on Thursday at 2 p.m., when they host Southwestern at Bob Vetter Field.
