Palomar Evens Series With 8-5 Win Over San Diego Mesa

SAN DIEGO, CA (4/3/2025) -- No. 8 Palomar College bounced back from Tuesday's loss with an 8-5 road win over San Diego Mesa College on Thursday afternoon to even the series at one game apiece.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first, the Comets exploded for five runs in the third inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Brendan Shanahan. Adrian Macias added a solo shot in the fourth, and Palomar tacked on two more runs for a comfortable lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Shanahan had a stellar day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Macias finished 2-for-4 with a home run and an RBI. Carter Jorissen added an RBI single, while Justin Tucker drove in two runs and Jordan Treadwell and Braedon Peterson-Cheek each contributed multi-hit games.

On the mound, Ian Mowad (1-3) picked up the win, throwing 4.1 innings and allowing two earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts. Lucas Smith and Michael Getzinger combined for 3.2 innings of relief, and Landon Elliott shut the door in the ninth for his first save of the season.

Palomar (21-9, 12-3 PCAC) will return to Bob Vetter Field on Saturday at 1 p.m. for the series finale, which will also serve as Military Appreciation Day.
